We seriously need to reign in this election insanity that we have seen over the past two election cycles, especially in the most recent midterm cycle.
With covid, we have witnessed scores of reports of potential election fraud, reports of votes “appearing out of nowhere” and “missing ballots” that were mailed well in advance, but cannot be found. Funny thing is that the missing votes seemed to be ones of voters voting for republican politicians.
Why can’t we eliminate mail in voting altogether? Sure, some absentee ballots for those who have no way to get to the polls or if you will be away from the country, on business, personal or military duty, sure, understandable.
To be used with EVERY election cycle? Look at the mess that we are dealing with now.
Especially with cities with large swaths of voters, it is taking over a week to get a final count of voters to certify and sign off on.
I remember growing up, watching the major news networks and eventually, the internet sites. The thrill and excitement of seeing the results flowing in every hour, The news panels throwing their two cents in, the technical analysis and when the news had enough “data” to call an election for a winner.
With the current scenario, now we need to wait possibly days, now weeks. This is getting ridiculous.
This is the solution that I call for: Let’s have Election Day. Let the kids have off from school. Non essential employees should have the day off or a portion of the day off to get the vote in. Election Day should be a holiday. Complete with the bombast, the camaraderie and effects that an election day should have, to push forth the importance of our duties as Americans.
With my suggestion, I am wondering what you are thinking in all of this. The insanity that election day brings, even without all of the hoopla and delays we have been experiencing in the last couple of cycles.
What say you?
